Patriotic Fireflies

Firecrackers
Spurt and sputter,
Dance and dream,
Flying upwards like
Thousands of patriotic fireflies
Singing old battlefield songs
With the Sons of Liberty.

Their brightness burns
The patriotic spark in each of us
Further and further into our hearts
Where it becomes more a part of us
Each and every July 4.

Lullaby of Tears

Abandoned Little baby girl
Left to cry herself to sleep
Too young to know the loss
Her little heart will one day feel
Her cries to the silence
Change into sobs to herself.

O Lullaby of Tears
Please sooth the broken heart to sleep
And Jesus add a harmony of peace.
And restful hope tonight.

Scared and trembling in the closet
While his parents fight and yell
Forgotten in chaos
He cries himself to sleep again.
His tears leave cleaner paths
Down his frowning, dirty cheeks.

O Lullaby of Tears
Please sooth the broken heart to sleep
And Jesus add a harmony
Of peace and restful hope tonight.

Left alone in the hospital
Wishing that he could just die
Looks to the left and sees
Another bed with a doting wife
Holding her husband's hand
"Try to sleep," she says.  He cries.

O Lullaby of Tears
Please sooth the broken heart to sleep
And Jesus add a harmony
Of peace and restful hope tonight.

O Lullaby of Tears
Your song is drawing near the end
The harmony of Jesus' love and peace.
Drowns out the melody.

Whispered Truth

I sit and stare out the window.
My soul finds peace in the knowledge
Of Truth held so tightly.
Truth of simple things most forgot
Long ago.

The truth of patience, and waiting,
And smiling through all of the pain.
Truth of silence, knowing
That what is just around the bend
Won't Last.

Truth calms me in the sweet knowledge
Of joy after the pain of life.
Joy that can't be taken
By bitterness that's crouching near
Waiting.

Though pain and bitterness may try
To gain a foothold in my life.
I stand with Truth and the
Simple whisper of Love that calms
My soul.
